Narrative
Não fazem o centeio aqui, em Lugar de Chãos. Aqui é só milho. Os campos de centeio são em Picães. Após a colheita do molho semeiam azevém e um pouco de centeio, só para o gado comer no Inverno.A semente é renovada ao fim de 3-4 anos, para isso compram nova semente em Montalegre. Se não renovarem o centeio fica fraco. No dia 1/08/2006 voltou-se à casa do Agricultor. Nome dos Colectores - Filomena Rocha, Eliseu Bettencourt e Carlos Gaspar. Veiu mais semente desta amostra de centeio e recolheu-se mais informação: Ele semeia em Picães. Faz cerca de 9 a 10 rasas. Pão de milho com centeio (1/2 de milho para 1/2 de centeio). A palha é utilizada para o ninho dos porcos e para a corte das vacas e também das galinhas. O gado também a come nos invernos mais rigorosos. Antigamente o porco era chamuscado com carqueja, agora utilizam o maçarico. Semeia o centeio no meio do milho para o gado comer a erva, para cortar para os porcos e as galinhas. Utiliza também entre as linhas de milho para evitar que a água evapore. O centeio é comprado, nos grámios vem de Montalegre. A semente que trouxemos é de 2005. Tirei fotografias (1 a 5). Peso das amostras recolhidas: 80 g (2004) + 1,587 Kg (2006)

Banco Nacional de Germoplasma Vegetal Policy

The “Banco Português de Germoplasma Vegetal” (BPGV) conserves living seed and plant samples of mainly Portuguese crops and their wild relatives.

BPGV ensures that the genetic resources that support our food supply are both secure in the medium and long term for future generations and available for use by farmers, plant breeders, and researchers.

These collections are important to ensure that crop plants, which may contain genes to resist disease, provide enhanced nutrition, or survive in changing or harsh environments do not become endangered or extinct over time.

The BPGV located in Braga, Portugal maintains clonal and seed collections of the most important crops, such as cereals, grain legumes, vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, forage, pasture and fruit species.

The BPGV is maintained as a global public good under the FAO International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA).

BPGV is the custodian of one of the largest germplasm collections, with more than 10,000 accessions maintained as seeds and living plants, and recently started a cryopreservation programme.
